The stairway project on west Maui provides public access to the pristine beach at the Marine Life Conservation District at Mokuleia and Honolua Bay for visitors and residents. The project originally developed as a collaborative effort between public agencies and the landowner, Maui Land and Pineapple Company, Inc. the property owner, was responsible for the project design, acquiring necessary permits and providing materials for the project The State DLNR, Na Ala Hele Trails and Access Program provided labor and funding. Tri-Isle served as a sponsor andfiscal agent. Due to excessive corrosion from the salt air, the stairway is in need of upgrade and repair.
This past project is in need of upgrade and repair and approximately $90,000 is needed to match ADA funds of $54,000 and Na Ala Hele of $20,000. Maui Coastal Land Trust and Na Ala Hele are willing to partner in this project with total costs estimated at approximately $175K. |
