Maui Ranch Estates Owners Association worked with the Department of Water Supply, Tri-Isle RC&D, USDA, Rural Development and Rural Community Assistance Program on improving a private water system that was deteriorating at Ulumalu-Peahi area. The system was causing health problems for the residents, which totaled about 450 people.  USDA, Rural Development provided a grant of $1.13 million and a loan of $295,000.  A Community Block grant of $100,000 also was received as a result of cost share contributions from area residents.  The Department of Water Supply allocated $100,000 in funding and Tri-Isle RC&D was granted $70,000 for the design phase of the project with the County of Maui.
